Introspect is a quarterly journal framing modern American culture around historical documents.

The problem: The impact of the U.S.’s founding documents on today’s society is largely unchartered.

The solution: Using the politics of the past as a lens for examining the social makeup of the present, each issue of Introspect focuses on an important sentiment from United States’ founding written materials. Introspect’s articles focus on the original meanings of the beliefs the Founding Fathers held and how the essence of these beliefs has morphed to have new significance today. Its issues include topics like the Right to Bear Arms, the Pursuit of Happiness, and the Free Exercise Clause.

The thinking: Perfect for an audience which appreciates purposeful design and is willing to spend money on items of value, readers of this magazine likely enjoy expanding their knowledge and consider themselves to be intellectuals. Visually subtle, academic, and grounded, Introspect allows the breathing room necessary to digest the complex musings offered inside on the evolution of the American ideal.

The Right to Bear Arms

Introspect’s Spring 2020 issue centers on the Second Amendment and the many ways in which it has infiltrated modern American culture. It draws on a mix of visuals that reference the past, as seen in the color palette and typography choices, while referencing the present day in imagery and copy.

The Pursuit of Happiness

Introspect’s Summer 2020 issue explores the Declaration of Independence’s assertion that citizens deserve to pursue happiness and how it has manifested in present-day America. The art direction is light and inviting, exploring the many definitions of happiness, while maintaining cohesion with the previous issue through color choice and typography.
